An Inclusive Workspace
Bubble Love currently employs two women with disabilities, 4 women of color, two women who speak English as a second language, and two people who identify as queer. I have loved becoming a safe space where these women can earn a living wage and still save up to buy a car. Two of my employees are supporting their aging parents and responsible for paying for multigenerational housing. It thrills me that employing women means breathing life into the community and creating opportunities that extend beyond to their kids and siblings and parents.
My dream is to continue hiring women with disabilities who have aged out of high school. Our two young women currently employed at the shop are wonderful members of our team. One of them uses a wheelchair and together we hope to normalize people in wheelchairs at the register. My other employee uses a communication device to take orders. Together, we are hoping to normalize communication devices in work spaces. They are very brave women and I am honored to have them on our Bubble Love team. We are much stronger with them than without them.
